The Minnesota Senate convenes the 2017 legislative session. The Minnesota Senate is the largest state senate in the United States with 67 members. Twenty-one Senators, nearly one-third of the body, took the oath of office for the first time.

Senator Michelle Fischbach, R-Paynesville, was elected as the Senate President and Cal Ludeman was elected Secretary of the Senate.

The Republicans control the Senate with a 34-33 majority. Senator Paul Gazelka, R-Nisswa, and Senator Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, were elected as Senate Majority Leader and Senate Minority Leader, respectively.
