SENATE WEBCAST - Sunday, November 20, 2016

On this week's Capitol Report program, newly-elected Senators attend their first orientation program to begin the journey of becoming an effective legislator. Moderator Shannon Loehrke speaks with three of the members who will be sworn into office January 3rd.

Two of the newly-elected Senators have some big shoes to fill. Senator-elect Matt Klein, DFL-Mendota Heights, will represent the district of former Senate President James Metzen, who passed away earlier this year. Senator-elect Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks, will assume the seat held by Senator Leroy Stumpf, DFL-Plummer, and chair of the Senate Capital Improvements Committee, who is retiring when his term ends January 3rd. Both of the new members talk with Shannon about filling the roles held by legendary Senators and their hopes for their legislative careers.

Another newly-elected Senator was first exposed to the legislative process when he served as Senate page. Senator-elect Andrew Mathews talks with Shannon about his background, the campaign trail, and what he hopes to accomplish in the upcoming 2017 legislative session.
