SENATE WEBCAST - Friday, October 14, 2016

Vowing to work collaboratively with their colleagues to address the rising health insurance rates in the individual market, key Senate members outlined several initiatives Friday, October 14, designed to help curb costs for people seeking health insurance in the individual market.

Senate Health and Human Services Finance Chair Tony Lourey, Health and Human Services Policy Chair Kathy Sheran and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Hayden highlighted past efforts to address the issue while committing to ongoing work in the near future, possibly preparing for a special session before the end of the year. "We really want to make sure that we look for the unintended consequences," said Hayden in expressing caution about how quickly a solution could be reached.

Following the DFL press conference, House Speaker Kurt Daudt addressed the media and indicated that any solution would be bipartisan. He said a special session should be held as soon as possible to pass legislation that would help curb the costs.
